Title: Can dogs smell something as small as a fly?

I have a question for The Naked Scientists.

Yesterday, we were watching our dog chase and eat flies in the house.

Our older son knowingly explained to the younger one that the dog can smell the flies.

I've heard you talk about a dog's ability to smell, but can it really smell a fly?
