Yesterday my mother showed me her locked computer ,she can't remember her password now because she changed it several times,I used the Ophcrack software on her computer, but it wasn't what I expected,(Ophcrack worked on my Windows 7 before),now there's nothing I can do ,please help us.
-
Does she have a microsoft account? If so, microsoft can unlock it for you. If she set up the computer using a non-microsoft user then you might be in trouble.

Could you put the drive into an other computer running Linux and off load any valuable files then make a fresh start ?

If she did, would she lose the files on her computer?

You don't have to physically remove the hard-drive to do that : it is possible to run a live-OS (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_CD) (Linux (http://www.linuxandubuntu.com/home/top-5-linux-system-rescue-cds) or Windows (https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4200-create-recovery-drive-windows-10-a.html)) from a CD/DVD/USB (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_CD) on the same computer to access the hard-drive data, (assuming UEFI (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface#Secure_boot) permits the live OS to be installed, and there is no disk-encryption on the hard-drive).
[ BTW this thread smells like a set-up for someone to sell a proprietary third-party software-solution ]

If you have a windows 10 system on USB or DVD you can load a new system in and transfer everything from users system old to the new users not forgetting the programs and power setting.
Normally about half the program run OK but half may needed to be reloaded all pictures ,videos and documents transfer OK.
There is provision to clear out windows old but don.t do it to early until you have transferred everything !

Using DVD/CD/USB , before doing so ,i have to make it as a password reset disk ,right ?
-
No you can't make a passport reset disk unless you know the passport what I am suggesting is that you put a new system on with a new passport.

Thanks all , this problem has been solved ,i got help from <a commercial entity that we're not going to spammily name here>.

There are free programs available on the internet that will find the first three letters of your password that might be sufficient to jog your memory .

I am trying out various "free" password recover programs and find they tend to produce strange results for my own use I will continue to use the replace system method a bit laborious but reliable.

I have run a test with the registered version of Passcape and it quite successfully found a seven ASCII character password (caninep) in about an hour.

remove the cmos battery! lol
-
How does that help ? it only makes it so that you have to set the BIOS each time you use the computer.

clear the NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random Access Memory), the article will tell you to disconnect the two wires to the battery. It's a hard factory reset. lol

Personally, I would ask support engineers

Ophcrack works on Windows 7,not Windows 10,maybe,sometimes, Ophcrack alternatives may be helpful, let's try Google .
Trying it :

Keeping looking for good ways.

Personally, i think losing your password to your computer is just "bad management" and only just worth the point of having a password because the fastest way to "break in" is generally a startup disk kernel from some other OS. takes around 3 minutes with the reboot and BIOS adjustments if required.
Best remember to keep a copy of the password and in multiple locations somewhere FIRST.
I had a thing deliberately burned out in the core of my 100Mhz P3 years back that terminates all power to the computer instantly if the password is wrong or door-knocked on networking without prior notification manually inserted to computer.
Of passwords, they think you are the person your phone is, THAT may be a good solution by Microsoft with legitimate installs of the OS - getting a type in code SMS to the named persons phone from an online registry server - if the OS is properly online registered with OS activation from online source.
Note, Microsoft does not make BIOS parts of the motherboard, one thing to properly lock off the computer is to have a BIOS password for operation not merely editing settings PASSWORD (that F...s 'EM !) , then the computer cannot boot , a short method is editing bios manually at startup with the BIOS settings password to have a particular permanent internal disk with no OS as the only boot disk to start from and allows no other, so you can only boot by interrupting and editing to use a single instance of a device to boot from when the computer is started after "special bios .entry edit exit reboot instruction" !
