Title: Do you lose more weight cycling in heat or cold??
Post by: latebind on 09/11/2009 17:18:52
In the heat, we sweat more, but in the cold our body works hard to keep core temperature, so would I lose more weight cycling when it is hot or cold outside?

You would lose more weight cycling in heat.

When doing exercises like cycling, you burn energy in propulsion with heat as byproduct.
If you're cycling in hot weather, it will require an extra amount of energy to get rid of this heat, while in cold weather, your body will like the heat byproduct and will not try so hard to get rid of it.

Make sure you drink plenty of water though if you want to work out in hot weather. Water contains no usable energy (from biochemical perspective) so you won't gain weight by drinking water [;)]
