From around the world, what are some cool military technologies your country has?
Personally my favorite is a little thing called the corner shot.

The wheel is one of my favourites and I understand that the military may use it. This information may, however, be classified and I haven't had occasion to check on it.

Actually, this brings me to the latest British invention. An aircraft.

"Nothing new there", you might say, but this one has (Shhhhh don't tell everyone, or they'll want one).......... No aircraft!  Hehehehe, crafty eh! That 'll have the enemy rolling around in fits of laughter and while they do, we'll charge up to them on our heavily armed tricycles and let 'em have it with both barrels.

We use the corner shot in the United States military. though not a frequent tool it is still effective.
i dont know all the highlights and details but have seen it used and it works perfectly.

its basically a pistol or a m16 or even a type of shotgun mounted on a holder that can be rotated around a corner to engage an enemy safely behind a wall.
there is a camera attached to the barrel of the weapon and a screen on the but end of the weapon as to aim and take shot at potential enemies.

i have posted a few pictures to give a better idea of what this technology is.
its very usefull in building raids in afghanistan today.
it was once just an idea but has now come to the modern day battlefield

I always though that the Lockheed Blackbird was pretty 'cool' (as well as hot!) as a kid (but because of it's technical feats not it militaristic uses).

Going back the odd few 10's of years, I suppose Radar had to be the great invention. Without it Britain would not have been able to defeat the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain.

Since then the only thing Britain has come up with of any note, which I can think of, is the Harrier Jump Jet.

In view of the current financial situation, perhaps we should reinvent the sling shot!

radar could possibly have been one of the best military technologies. but recently there have been many counters to it. maybe we should start improving radar tech.?

You should probably include the gas turbine (AKA the jet engine which was invented in the UK and Germany) and GPS.

It's interesting that both of these technologies have had a profound effect on nonmilitary products.

Not usually the war though - at least if Vietnam is anything to go by!

The most effective weapons in recent years have been sharp sticks, with which the Vietcong drove the French and Americans out of Vietnam; a combination of small knives and psychology, with which Al Quaeda reduced the population of the western world to quaking fear and impotence; and blatant lies, which led to the invasion of Iraq, 250,000 civilian deaths,  and huge profits for Halliburton (military rations) and Bechtel (oil), as intended.

Interestingly, the "corner shot"  that began this thread had a precursor in a German rifle with a radiused bend, intended for close defence of a tank. It used a shortened bullet and could of course only fire to the right, so defence to the left required the user to hold it upside down.  IIRC the Germans surrendered shortly after its introduction.

It is arguable that the oscar for overall "best weapon in current use" is the AK47 assault rifle and bottle opener - a 1947 classic, still in mass production. Certainly the weapon of choice for just about everyone including US schoolchildren and nutcases, and almost as politically effective in Africa as the machete.
