what is the different between rusting and corrosion? confuse....

Basically corrosion is more of a general term to mean the process of degradation of metals due to chemical reactions with its surroundings. Many metal corrosion produces a layer of metal oxide. When talking about corrosion of iron the results of the corrosion process is rust (iron oxides). Rust is formed by the reaction of iron and oxygen in the presence of water or air moisture.

The corrosion of iron causes rust to form.

Yes. Iron rusts because the term 'rust' is associated with the Iron oxides formed. It does not mean that it is the only metal which can disintegrate. Other metals can corrode. As a matter of fact, we may say that the process of rusting is a common type of corrosion occuring specifically to Iron.


Other metals corrode, but with different rate. Aluminum do not, for instance, corrode easily. Aluminum  produces a thin layer of Aluminum Oxide which protects it from corrosion. Nickel is sometimes used to produce stainless steal for cuttlery, due to its anti-corrosion properties.

i think that the image should be corrected. actually is oxygen dissolved in the water droplet that reacts with iron, the oxygen itself will not react directly with iron unless you're at very high temp and you have high temperature oxidation.
