Why Do I Weigh More On A Carpet ?
« on: 01/07/2008 19:12:54 »
Dear Carpetologists.

As a sheep, I of course am naturally curious about my weight !....I don't get put out to stud looking like a dried up piece of mutton ewe know !!..

Weighing scales are my all time favourite weight calculating thing that ewe stand on to tell ewe your weight !

I love them, ewe love them...weighing scale manufactures love them !!

So, donning some human feet I weighed myself....

Act 1:  Enter Stage Left....abuse weighing scales upon bathroom floor:

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

15 stone !..that's 4lbs heavier than this morning when un-attired !!
Target 13 stone.....two stone lost in 8 weeks ! (too fast yes ?)

Act 2: Enter Stage Right.....abuse weighing scales upon carpeted hallway:

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

15 Stone 2lbs !!.....What's that all about ?....how did I manage to gain weight between weigh-ins ?

Act 3: Enter Stage from below via rising trapdoor thingy......abuse weighing scales again in the bathroom.......Result ?..2lbs lost !!...

so...my questions are ...

Why do I weigh different when the scales are  on a hard surface and then a soft surface ?
Which one gives me the correct weight ?

Take your time...I can weight !! *le groan*

Hugs et les shmisheys

Your feet are positioned differently on the two weighings, this can change the value displayed on the dial a little.

most scales state to use scale on smooth hard surface to get accurate read. carpet allows scale to not be level and get inaccurate reading.. you should always use hard level surface for accuracy!

Thank Ewe RD...but I repeated this experiment a few times....and in 9 out of (well...5 out of 6 times) times...the carpet always displayed a higher weight !

Thank Ewe Karen....but I want to know why ?.....my carpet is level...it's just soft !!....try it...see it....live it...then lets all hope together that a passing weightololgist steps in and answers. [:)]

It does the same at my house but doesn't a scale use a balancing technique to weigh us? If so standing on the scale upon a carpet the scale will be less steady and unbalanced sinking perhaps deeper into one side then the other depending on where our weight is distributed, perhaps more to one side or the other perhaps putting more weight to the back or front etc..

easy, because the carpet is soft then you kind of sink down a little,  anyway on a carpet there is less force pushing back on you so you weigh more than on a hard surface

i cant explain it any other way

Thank Ewe JonBoy and welcome to the forum .........I see.....so perhaps if I stood there long enough...the carpet might squish enuff to reveal my true weight.

So, I daren't weigh myself on a fluffy cloud......I'll weigh a ton !!   [;)]

I bet your feet are positioned differently on the two weighing scale. Or maybe you are leaning (cuz you are taking this photo) while you are trying to get your exact weight.
