Title: What caused this profound experience of knowing the mind of God?
Post by: Roy P on 15/05/2006 23:03:43
Reading the thread about sleep paralysis reminded me of three horrifying episodes I experienced over the period of a one year, ten years ago:

They were 'touching-the-mind-of-God' experiences. Two were induced following general anaesthesia, and one, most frighteningly, occurred for no apparent reason when I woke in the early hours of the morning.

Each probably lasted for no more than 10-minutes at a time. Suddenly, the 'meaning of life' was perfectly clear: My heart was pounding and adrenaline was surging through my system. I accepted that I was on the verge of physical death, but my (soul?) was locked into infinity and I was the only person/spirit in the universe. I was dreadfully alone and every*thing* and every*one* was unreal, so no one could help me. Nothing can describe the profoundness of the experiences!

I've talked to friends and colleagues about these experiences, but they just don't understand the profound and terrifying revelations.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Yes do a search in NDEs Near death experiences. Dirk Wilner... One friend of mine went down a tunnel into what looked like a WW1 battlefield. Another saw Heaven, there is also Ian Mcormack and a famous African guy.

Couldn't find anything about Dirk Wilner, Titanscape. Ian McCormack's description certainly comes close to mine but without the 'religious' aspect.

Yes, I've read, and watched documentaries about NDEs. And I've also had an out-of-body experience following a fall through a plate glass window, but they're a tickle in the throat compared to the above!

In my case, I was fully conscious during all three episodes. I've also experienced full blown, debilitating panic attacks, but these were way beyond one of those.

Roy P I got that when I meditated on the beach for several hours watching a heron fish at night. Then I walked along staring at all the beach fires. I was permanently happy for the next month or so afterwards. It was far more than just the mental state of being in touch with everything; it was like my spine was on fire to, with blinding euphoria. Someone probably could have mugged and stabbed me and I wouldn’t have noticed or cared.

I also have lots of lucid dreams which give the same feeling when I wake up. I think its something about the state your mind is in when it’s partly awake and partly asleep. Deep meditation is like being hyper aware but not alert (if that’s possible) you feel like you are aware of everything, but once the euphoria kicks in you don’t notice anything really outside of your mind, much like a dream.

Well, it's not exactly the same but some days ago, when I was about to sleep, I thought about cessation of existence and how scary it is that every night our consciousness totally lost, dying temporarily. However, after some tens of minutes passed, I was very sleepy and the peace of mind occurred to me. I thought, "I don't mind if I pass away peacefully in this sleep tonight, it's just so comfortable to sleep". Strangely, that's the only time in my whole life that I feel that way. I didn't even feel that way when I was in a real risk of death, most notably during my first experience climbing a mountain when I almost fell off a slope twice.

Never heard of a near death experience of being alone.

I would call it a nightmare.
