We were invited to a party in the next village. We decided to cycle and I started having an asthma attack but I recovered. The party was at a friends house who had turned his bungalow into the most fabulous hose you have ever seen but it is now so big you would have to invite about 200 people to give the place a party feel. Loads of the friends we thought would be there jumped ship to go to another party. We soon realised that most of the party were disappearing to the other party. So it was a bit quiet come midnight. We then had to cycle back, worse for wear, cold and very tired.
What about you lot. Did you fair any better.

No, I stayed at home alone and cried into some wonderful tea I received as a Christmas present.
-
I had a much better time than I expected. The plan was that I'd go to a friends place and we'd see the new year in with Jools Holland - it seemed a lot less sad than sitting at home on our own and neither of us fancied paying to get in to the crappy pubs around here, with their non-existent service and semi-sentient clientele. In the end though, another half-dozen friends turned up and we had quite a good party.

Martha Reeves and the vandeles where cruel to listen to. Martha sounded like Katherine Hepburn in On Golden Pond. To top it they did 3 numbers which were teeth grindingly inhumane. Jules Holland is usually pretty good. When Martha was asked what she normally does on New Year she replied. "I stay at home and watch tv"

Wifey went to bed at 23:30....Myself and the two eldest offspring stayed up and we had a mug of Babysham to share !
We KNOW how to live-it-up !!

I ate dinner and watched TV in Eureka with a couple I have known for 25 years... or so.. watched the old car show auction and visited until three in the morning! Then came home and collapsed...

If you're going to stay up til 23:30 you might as well stay the extra half hour surely?!
We went to a wedding, so shared New years eve with lots of our friend's ageing relatives who we'd never met before! The evening improved in proportion with the amount of alcohol consumed! [;D] And we all crossed arms and sang Auld Lang Syne at Midnight. Wasn't a bad night, all in all.

I might have known that Neil would be drinking Bambi juice.

yes..I recall you telling me that along time ago....before you left the forum for so long!
There is a big heart center up in redding..at Redding medical.... I was up there a number of months ago.... but..its 3 and 1/2 hours drive from here above me as you know...
I live in Fieldbrook Blue Lake area... Mckinleyville Arcata area on the blue lake end.... headed out towards willow creek redding area!
Nice weather area.. but really wet and cold in the winter for this area, not at all like southern California... where its always Hot.....
I want to say that California is about Eight Hundred and seventy miles long from oregone boarder down to the Mexican boarder..... I LIKE IT HERE... MOUNTAINS BEACHES AND THE ABILITY TO DRIVE TO THE SNOW OR THE DESSERT ...... if one takes a mind to!
-
It's GORGEOUS up there in Northern california! Love it! Want to go back and see more of the place. Saw the redwoods, Shasta lake, Lassen volcanic park, drove up past Mount Shasta, over the border to oregon, up through Eureka and Crescent City on the coast, Whiskey Town, Burney falls ... etc, etc
-
Yep.. It is beautiful here.. but so many people leave because there is really not a lot of entertainment for those who have grown up in the city.. They come thinking this is where they want to live but then they find that they are bored and want a lot more action so to speak.. They want thick traffic congestion and smog and Lots more people etc etc etc. LOL Its funny how they grow to dislike it as they stay...
Home town people grow up and they either love it or hate it some hate it with a passion and can"t wait to come of age and beat feet to the city life for many years sometimes.. then suddenly become home sick and ready for the slower paced life of the country! Others just leave and never come back! LOL.. Its funny how that is.. everyone is so different! I absolutely Love it here its all I know... But I also love The other places I have visited... so I would like to see other states and countries as well as my own!

Sorry I confused you all but Eureka is a common name for science museums in Britain. So I thought that is where you spent New Year. I thought it was a bit odd!
-
LOL LOL..I did not know that! Thats interesting .. do you know why they call them that.. I always thought Eureka meant "I found it"? Why do you supposed the British refer to it in terms of science museums?
Thanks for explaining!
-
I'm British, and I've never heard that one before!!!
I come from a relatively small town in a rural area, although not miles from anywhere like you are, its still pretty hard to get around when you're young and can't drive. Been in London for a few years now and am craving the countryside again.

Yeah This is my small town..often driving into Arcata or Eureka in our rush hour I find myself laughing thinking of a post Neil made once about it taking a couple hours to drive 12 miles in your rush hour traffic.. something like that... We never have that long wait even when they divert traffic to one lane at rush hour! Amazing! I can"t imagine two hours for 12 miles! That's crazy!
I love t6he country but would love to come there and experience life in the city!

Eureka is the word that signifies scientific discovery. Some science nuseums call themselves science discovery centres, so I guess that is why. I think you have realised by know that I am a science museum anorak. Anorak means someone who is mad about something. I comes from train spotters who would stand around on stations, in bright anoraks, talking about the slight distictions between different items of rolling stock. Is that all clear now!?

The new year party I was at finished before midnight; the hosts had to be up early to set off on holiday.
-
Thats pants. Why host a new year party if you finish before the new year? They should have called it an 11pm party.
