Title: I'm In Pain ...Why ?
Post by: neilep on 04/04/2009 17:25:05
Dear Painologists,

see these bikes ?

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

and here is me riding one (yes, I know I am shoeless)

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

Now then, as ewe may or may not know, since June last year I have been averaging about 35 miles a week on the treadmill....the reason why I mention this is because I wonder if it's related to my question.

When my left leg is at the bottom of the cycle it really hurts in a special area  [:-[] [:-[]  ie: imagine where my left 'joy-egg' is..then there on my left leg/groin area is where it hurts as my leg is stretched.. It feels muscular ...is it ?...and could it be caused due to all the excessive fast walking I do on the treadmill ?

whajafink !!

OUCH !!...kiss better ??? [?] [?]

I hate to say this but it may be a hernia... do sheep get these? I don't know though. It seems like it's related to the exertion, but if it persists it may be worth visiting the doc (err.. vet).

noooooooooooooooo !!......I did consider this but I kind of dismissed it because I am fine doing everything else..including the treadmill....but....perhaps I should take a few days off from it......

Perhaps you need to just rest. Then take notes.

If it comes back with exercise see if it is associated with other pain. Or does the pain seem associated with the ligament that brings you leg in from being stretched out to the side?

Let us know. Inquiring minds want to know. If it is what I have experienced, you won't like the diagnosis I received so i am not going to even mention it. It is a VERY remote possibility.

Something else to think about is that you possibly have your seat to high and are over extending your thigh muscle and pulling the area in your groin.. Poor Sheepy.. Is it only on the bike you notice this as walking on treadmill and bicycling use totally different muscles and they actually can aid you to work out the hip and groin better on a bike.. My hip mostly groin area like you is effected by the bicycle ... but in a good way low impact to the joint helps build the muscle to hold your hip joint in the socket.. The ball part fall out a bit because the muscle is weak there so building that muscle helps....Feel better Sheepy and get it checked out for safety reasons.. just in case... [:X] [;)]

It's the first time I have been on the bike in months, because the weather was nice today...if it had not been for the cycle ride I would never have had the symptom....so, it does not hurt doing the treadmill at all !

Thank you for your kind support.

Don't panic just get checked.. like Jim Bob said, its a VERY remote chance.. likely to be something much more simple...etc..

Your welcome... it is probably because you are working a different part of your groin thigh muscles.. because of the switch in exercise.. That is pretty common when one moves from walking to riding a bike.. there is more stretching of that inner thigh on the bike and also hip and groin workout as well!

Make sure you are able to extend your knee but not so much that you are over stretching the toe to pedal the bike through its full pedal. If your seat is too high you could be straining that inner thigh muscle in the groin area.. This is what my physical therapist told me going from walking on the treadmill to the bicycle...

Be careful..Sheepy you don't want to pull something vital! Well Maybe you do,....but thats the wrong way to pull it!!! [;D] LOL

Did you say stretch????  Is that the same pain result as a hamstring muscle stretch?
That sounds about accurate, so lower the seat so you do not require to stretch any.
If the bikee was someone elses then is it fitted for their size? If so its alike standard work OHS regulations and principles, reshape the object for your own ability to use it or you will probably get a "repetitive strain injury"!

I think it may be similar... You were talking to me eh?  Yes I did say stretch.. if the seat is too high he could be stretching his leg beyond the proper pedal radius and over stretching the inner muscle up into the thigh and groin... So as You say lowering the seat would help but also if the seat is to low could cause a problem also by not allowing a proper opened leg pedal!
