If aliens even had the technology to defy gravity and inertia, we could easily assume that they also have the technology to detect us accurately, especially with the help of our microwave signals that they may just of intercepted.

That may be true, but the erratic thing on the radar would be unlikely to be moving in a straight line, or stay in the right area for it to be acting that way. (It also described how five smaller blips gathered at a larger blip, presumably the mother ship)
