Title: My computer, after shutting down, immediately turns on again. Why?
Post by: Tomassci on 25/07/2018 21:09:40
Hello. I have a problem. My computer, when I shut it down (by clicking the start menu) shuts down, and then it turns up. Interestingly, when I do that through power off button, it stays down. It isn't virus, so what it could be?

On Windows computers, "Shut Down" and "Restart" are right next to each other on the menu.

If you miss "Shut Down", you might accidentally hit "Restart", and then the computer will turn on again immediately after it shuts down.

A power switch is a more "binary" device (even if modern power switches have software behind them - on Windows computers, holding down the power switch for more than 5 seconds means really shut down, now!)...

Software running (in the background) can prevent shut down, see ... https://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-will-not-shut-down

It may be possible to return your computer's operating-system to a point in time before the problem occurred
see ... https://www.dummies.com/computers/operating-systems/windows-7/how-to-complete-a-system-restore-in-windows-7/ (https://www.dummies.com/computers/operating-systems/windows-7/how-to-complete-a-system-restore-in-windows-7/)

If you do a System Restore (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Restore) your data is unaffected, but the computer it will forget any software (e.g. updates/drivers) which was installed in the intervening period, (which is good: those may be the cause of your reboot problem).
