Title: The god particle
Post by: Pablo on 09/08/2005 22:40:23
I was wondering if the god particle has already been discovered. If not, what are the plans on future experiments?

I think its called the Higgs boson, a particle that supposed to explain why mass has mass or it gives mass to particles.Something like that.
Isn't that one of the reasons why there building the collider thing at cern in france.

Wow that's way too technologically advance for my standards, imagine how long the speech will be when they figure out how it works.
I have enough problem with Science Coursework as it is without the need of a GOD PARTICLE![}:)][}:)]

Nobody knows exactly what it is, it's just believed that it could explain the theory about mass, just as "i cant remember his or her name" said....

It's actually the title of a book by Leon Lederman. You can review it here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0385312113/qid=1123701646/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_ur_2_1/103-3935916-3025459

It has been said that amongst the genre of popular physics book, one loses half the readership for every formula in the book. It's also been said that one doubles the readership for every mention of "God" in the book. I have skimmed this book in a bookstore, but declined to read it because Lederman's style did not appeal to me. I think the use of "God" in the title is a cheesy gambit to grab readership. Other than that, there is nothing about the Higg's boson, or Higg's physics in general to suggest any connection with God.

Lol I've never heard someone call it the "God" particle before, that's a bit over blown. We don't even know it it exists yet [:)] spose that explains the dramatised name as "The God Particle" [:P]

Pablo the Higgs Boson is purely theoretical although lots of stuff assumes it exists some rethinking will have to be done if it's not found. The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is being built to try and find it plus to try and detect all the super symmetric particles, test the possibility of micro black holes... and some other stuffs.

If you want some more info I can ask my friend from university who is over there now. She is writing some software for one of the detectors!

Hey,ever noticed when you switch the postions of "n", "t" and "a" in "santa" you end up with Satan???[?]
I find that a little bit disturbing, but as a man mostly of science im gonna say "It just a Coincidence"......."It just happens" people!

i also think that " God particle" maybe just a mathematical particle. But the ideal about a particle whom connects very different theories is very physical, I also link to the ideal of P.A.M.Dirac about particle and pseudopartical
