Matty sent in this question via the webform:

Do hair and fingernails grow quicker on a flight?

Is it true? And if so do pilots have especially luscious hair & nails?

Possibly a folk myth from the days when the RAF were called "Brylcreem Boys" because the other services were a bit stricter about hair length and general bull.

As an ageing civilian aviator, I'd see bitten nails as a sign of inadequate flight planning, and long hair as a fading memory. But we do get a healthy year-round tan above the clouds, and really cool sunglasses, so cutting a dash is easy if you keep your cap on.
