Complementary Medicine / Re: Does Cannabis oil Cure some cancers?
« on: 13/02/2019 02:40:17 »I know it is an illegal substance in most countries but in America there seems to be reports coming in of it being used successfully to treat patients. Has there been any serious scientific study into these claims?
There is a fair amount of interest in cannabidiol (CBD) for applications in various forms of cancer. CBD is non-psychotropic and is therefore easier to obtain in various places around the world.
There have certainly been many studies into it. While collating studies on cannabinoids I have 85 already on cancer. Most of these are related to THC and CBD, but also other cannabinoids (or blends of them). Some of them are also on endocannabinoids (which we natually have in our bodies). There are various patents for cannabinoids and cancer treatments. People are taking it serously.
The problem currently is there are just too many gaps to say there is efficacy. Most of the evidence is anecdotal. In virtually all of the works researching bodies of evidience on cannabinoids and cancer, the results have been along the lines of "More research is needed". With which I agree.
Since the laws around cannabis are changing, and since even if THC remains illegal and taboo the growing awareness of CBD, CBDA, CBG and other non-psychotropic cannabinoids, along with there becoming more of a legal destinction between cannabinoids; hopefully this will lead to more researchers being able to get permission and funding to carry out these further studies and clinical trials. There are people who have been wanting to do these for quite some time, but due to blanket laws on cannabis, they were not able to.
