Title: why do we frown when concentrating?

Why do we clench our brow muscles when we are thinking hard or focusing on a problem? Does it do anything neurologically to help concentration?

Yeah, absolutely correct. There are some muscles which expanded and contracted according to nerve's request which will help to concentrate more..

When I frown in an exaggerated manner I am cutting off the periphery of my vision - I wonder if the idea is a throwback to visually concentrating on an object and blocking out distractions.  Historically, if we needed to put our full concentration on a prey-animal, a predator, or a hazards we would frown and kind squint to limit information to the important bit; and we still associate that concentration with frowning
