Sean Croker asked the Naked Scientists:
Attention: Dr. Chris Smith
Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of the years that you have contributed to your
podcasts
. I am a Canadian and have been listening to your podcasts for the last 8 years. I recently relocated to New Zealand and now teach at an electrical trades campus.
I am by no means a scientist, Although I have noticed that you appear more frustrated in your podcasts these days then you used to. Technology is a wonderful thing, but does make it much harder to explain things to people when they compare what you tell them to all of the opinions online. Trust me, I just spent a year being badgered by students quizzing me and comparing my response to those from their smartphones.
I can empathise with you. My advice is slow down in your responses and let your genuine qualities come out. If they know you care, they won't badger you as much. The interaction may well become more valuable than the content.
Just an observation, all I really want to say is thank you. My hope is that you don't get frustrated and keep going with the podcast. You are doing meaningful work that positively impacts a great number of people, including myself.
Thanks for that,
Sean Croker
P.S no need to call
What do you think?
