Small rodents such as rats are to small and under develloped to have DNA cells in their leg bones. Although most medium sized animals have DNA in their leg bones, smaller ones usually don't. I can't remember where I read that. Good luck with the turnip!

I disagree. Rodents definitely have haematopoietic stem cells in their long bones. These are nucleated cells that give rise to the full spectrum of blood cells including erythrocytes (red cells), leucocytes (white cells) and larger cells like monocytes.
