There is nothing new about this - islands have always been created and submerged, and at other times islanders have lost their lands for other reasons (e.g. to make room for nuclear test sites - not justifying this, merely documenting that it happened).

Tuvalu is a country.
Tuvalu means Standing Eight to serve the Almighty.
Tuvalu had a rich cultural history.
It was short lived.

Half the UK is going to disappear too. As will most of Holland, Belgium, Northern France and an area across almost to the Rhein valley. That will inconvenience a lot more people than the population of Tuvalu. (Not that the disappearance of Tuvalu is trivial; I'm just trying to add perspective)

Then, of course, there are places like Bangladesh where tens of millions more people will be affected.

A quick look at the capital (and other major) cities of the world shows that the species is in trouble.
It's a pity that our politicians based in such places as London and Washington don't realise this. I guess they will. The houses of parliament and the Whitehouse are both about 12 m above sea level.
