YAYYYY. Finally a question I sort of know the answer to. I asked my vet this very question a few months ago. He said...
There are several reasons dogs have wet noses.
They have special glands inside their noses that secrete a watery fluid to keep the inside of the nose moist and to help cool the dog through evaporation.
The moisture in their noses also change with humidity, and they lick their noses alot which also helps keep their cute lil' noses wet.
And a dry nose does not necessarily mean the dog is ill. It could mean they're hot and a tad bit dehydrated and he cools down and drinks some water the nose will be moist again.

I have never seen a dog with a dry nose but my vet said wet warm nose means they are getting sick.
Thats cool about the other stuff! I did not know about the gland!
