Title: Unknown insect
Post by: DoctorBeaver on 13/10/2007 22:10:10
This little beastie is hanging on the kitchen wall. It's about 2" long plus the antennae. I don't recall seeing 1 of these before. Any idea what it is?

I think it is a buggy thingie - it has six legs and flies. Maybe it is an autumnal May fly?

looks like a hunter wasp from here, think the antennae is the thingy it drills through wood to lay its eggs on a larvae. They sometimes come with an orange or red abdomen, though may be wrong. Hmm thinking im wrong about the drilling thingy though suspect thats an ovipositor or something like that which comes from the other end of the bug.
