Hold on, is CJD fast growing? I thought it had an incubation period of up to 60 years.

passing comment: for someone who's username is an anagram of Santa, you do ask some morbid questions...grumbles to self...I thought I asked the morbid questions.

ALS IS A RELENTLESS, FATAL NEUROMUSCULAR DISEASE.

ALS is marked by progressive and highly selective degeneration and loss of upper and lower motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord leading to paralysis of voluntary muscles and loss of ability to swallow, speak, and breathe. The senses are unimpaired and the intellect may remain unaffected. ALS can strike anyone, male or female, of any ethnic origin and of any age. Usual onset is in middle-age, but some have been diagnosed as teens. Eighty per cent of those diagnosed will die within two to five years. ALS is also known as:
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Sclérose latérale amyotrophique (SLA)
Lou Gehrig's Disease
Motor Neuron Disease (MND)
Maladie de Charcot

Do heart attacks count? Or strokes?

Rabies is a pretty gruesome disease to die from, and depending on the circumstances, it can progress from initial infection to death in 2-3 months. The time can vary greatly, though. I once read that in one case the time between infection and symptoms was 19 years, although I don't know how they could connect the disease to some event 19 years prior.
