where is Mr fletcher?
Suprisingly, one cause is gravity! If you sleep face down then gravity can cause fluid to collect in that area, the dark circles are then cause by the swelling from the builup of fluid.

there are (i believe) many other reasons for the "condition"

Not only tiredness and anaemia (lack of iron) can result in dark circles around the eyes.

Similar to varicose veins, dark circles under the eyes are often hereditary and there is little you can do. Other reason may be paler skin due to menstruation and pregnancy (again linked to iron), dehydration, age (additional age related folds of skin under the eyes will also make dark circles more pronounced) or simply bad circulation.
