Title: Are chili peppers adictive ?

A new chili growing season is upon us and I seem to be growing hotter and hotter varieties.
These are used in the making of chili sauces and salsas but I always seem to want them hotter. So is capsicum adictive ?

Not for me they aren't but I do like them a lot. Perhaps what you are describing is acclimation and the need for larger and larger amounts of "hotness" to satisfy your taste buds.

I think it's not so much an addiction to capiscum than the 'am I going to survive this or not?' kind of daredevil adrenalin rush hopefully followed by pleasure waves of relief.

Does simply not do it for me at all. I like to be able to taste my food so chilli for me, a little goes a very very loooong way.

Though a teensy bit in chocolate..........  ay ay ay !

Yes my husband got me started.. not all of them of couse but for the most part they are pretty good!

I agree. I go kinda medium hot.. but after that I can't taste anything else and the pleasure of my food disappears with the tears running down my face and within a little something else running and re-burning the exit! LOL Sorry.. but me don't like really hot stuff. I do like spicey but not tear making hot!

The reaction people get to chilli is bordering on allergic.. maybe, you just crave that 'nice' part of the allergic reaction. Desensitised? yep probably something in that for all of us.
