I used to run, then as the impact took its toll I started cycling, then the knees started getting dodgey so I started swimming but which sport would work out the largest amount of the body?
-
I would say swimming.. It makes you use alot of muscles! Your arms, legs, tummy..
I guess running also. The cycling is mostly for legs, thighs..
-
Swimming relies on good technique. I don't find it as aerobic as I'd like.
-
I think swimming cuts off the most calories. Well.. If you do the same amount of kilometres as you run or cycle. That's obvious.. But it will be hard!
-
It still doesn't make my heart beat quickly enough. I could swim all day but my heart rate still doesn't go up high enough.
-
Oh... Like front-crawl swimming?? REALLY??
How about butterfly swimming??
Or you could just do a kilometre SPRINT.
-
i'd likely go with swimming.
if you don't feel it gets your HR up high enough, swim faster. [O8)]

I'm almost certain that squash burns the most calories.
Other activities up there would be windsurfing, skiing, (possibly) snow boarding...

Are there not those who regard sex as the best all round work out [;D]

Thank you for that very thoughtful answer there George [;D]

I used to play Squash and badminton at county level (yep...me was THAT good ! [;D])....and also was a pentathlete (smug mode).....Squash was always the sport that had us sweating the most as it was such an ' immediate ' sport that kept you in a perpetual state of " readiness "......Badminton comes in at virtually equal though....
Squash without a doubt burns a horrendous number of calories and you pay for it with sheer exhaustion...nit always though.....depends on your opponent of course !!
Swimming though has always been recognised as the best all round sport/exercise purely for the fact that you're virtually using all your muscles at the same time..........well...there's one muscle I suppose I wouldn't use as it'll get me arrested ! [;D]
