They're just the crease marks formed from when you close your hand

But babies have them too, and some genetic conditions - like trisomy 21 - are associated with a single palmar crease, so it cannot be that simple. There must be a developmental reason for their presence.

Interesting. Maybe its to do with grip, like fingerprints
