What is Valvular Insufficiency? A friend reports this as the name her Dr gave the illness she suffers from.

Bren.....I just typed it into dictionary.com and came up with this :

Failure of the cardiac valves to close perfectly, thus allowing regurgitation of blood past the closed valve.

It's kind of self explantory really but this of course is a dictionary definition and I'm sure there must be variances of degree.......I hope this helps anyway.......and with any luck, hopefully there are more opinions to follow.

I wish your friend well.

Was he talking about heart valves?  The blood flow in the heart is supposed to keep going forward, so when valves allow backflow, the heart gets congested, the pressure in the heart increases, it's not good for the heart to function under high pressure.  You also have veins in your legs to stop the blood from running backwards.  Bad valves = varicose veins.
