Viagra, have you tried it? Who's it for? That's which condition does it cure? I heard that if you do not need it it causes blindness in errant users. Any side effects? Is it expensive? How long does it last? Does it just help with erections or also stimulate the libido?

The boyfriend uses it after his surgery for cancer of the prostate. As I understand it, it doesn't create desire, just opens the blood vessels so the penis can completely engorge. The effect lasts for about 4 hours. It's not a cure, just a treatment for erectile dysfunction. Not recommended for those on some blood pressure medicines, cause it can dangerously lower blood pressure in combination with some medications. It worked great for the boyfriend. Made him feel like a 20 year old again.

I took it a few years ago for the hell of it. You can get away with taking half a pill unless you have serious issues with the erectile tissue or blood vessels, in which case you'd need a whole one at a larger dose. Yes, it's expensive. It will run you $5-$10 per pill. (which you must buy at least 10 of at once) The side effects can vary, but it made me see everything with a slight blue tint the day after using it...kinda of like wearing hippie sunglasses. Defaintely not even close to blindness though. It lasted full effect for about 6 hours but I could notice it still in my system for up to 24. Some of the other drugs they've released since have a longer duration, up to 36 hours.

my gf is a nursing student. she had a female patient during her clinicals the other day who was on perscribed viagra while in the hospital. obviously NOT for "ED". Since its a vaso-dialator it can have many other clinical uses.

I think the blue tint is one of the more serious side effects. Yes, Viagra is just a vaso-dilator, not a aphrodisiac. Testosterone is good for that.
If you took them both, you'd be loaded for bear, assuming it didn't just kill you.

Viagra (sildenafil) is an inhibitor of an enzyme called phosphodiesterase which breaks down a messenger-molecule called cGMP (cyclic guanosine monophosphate) which controls the opening and closing of blood vessels.
Different tissues usually have their own form of phosphodiesterase (PDE). The isoform expressed in penile vasculature is PDE5.
The photoreceptors (light-sensitive cells) in the retina have a different form called PDE6.
Viagra is fairly selective for PDE5, but also has a weak effect on PDE6, causing users (especially at higher doses) to experience a red-green discolouration of their vision.
This is not permanent.
