As a firm believer in empirical study I have drawn two lines on my garden patio and measured the distance between them....it is 30 cms....I will take daily readings at hourly intervals and report my findings.  Who knows ?  before the week is out I may have an ocean between them !

I as wondering that, but the other way around - where did the water come from? Plus, it doesn't explain how some tectonic plates are moving into each other (i.e. India & Asia). If the Earth was expanding, they would all be moving apart.

We actually discussed this here a while ago and the conclusion was that it's blx.
