Sweetys,
As ewe may or may not know we recently adopted two 5 year old bro and sis cats. They're both spayed/neutered etc.
Is there some kind of cat network that the word gets around and every cat for miles simply must come round ?...
Why is every cat in the neighbourhood hanging around our house ?...I just put the floodlight on in the garden and there's another one !..I don't even recognise it !
Surely my girly cat is not " putting out " as she's baron !
Any clues ? ideas ? tips ? woould be most welcome.

Any anti-cat devices, assuming they work, e.g. citronella, ultrasound, would upset your cats too.
You'd need a deterrent which could be targeted like this one (http://www.primrose-london.co.uk/scatter-bark-control-pest-repeller-p-1619.html), or a shotgun waterpistol (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hasbro-Super-Soaker-XP-240/dp/B000QGJZCW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=kids&qid=1221611821&sr=1-2) .
"I recently purchased a Water Blaster, for a strange reason; and oh in 2 days it's been so successful. I have 2 cats, who along with others are being constantly bothered by a "tough cat on the block" who doesn't have the comfort of a cat flap in his own home. Whilst I feel sorry for it, it's not on, to use other cat flaps and demolish food. I bought the water blaster as a deterrent. What great satisfaction I get from it, so easy to use so directional and so far so accurate! This morning direct aim, he was standing on my door step keeping my cat at bay, the blaster slid through the cat flap and bingo! I may be an eccentric "old lady" with her cats, but this morning I'm a happy lady with your product. Thank you" Thank you Valued Customer.

Surely my girly cat is not " putting out " as she's baron !
As she's female, shouldn't that be Baroness? [:D]
-
Have you had any "oriental" cooking establishments close down recently? I hear cat populations increase when this happens.
-
No need to buy special water bottles because next time that you have finished with a washing up liquid bottle,
Rinse it out carefully then put in ordinary water.
Squirt away at the cats, squirrels etc.
Is your male cat on heat?
Or the fact that you've not had a cat before now could be a reason as these animals have a good sense of smell.

I heard they decreased when they appeared. [;D]

The squirt gun works great if you want to get rid of them.. buy the super soaker!
I thought though that you really just wanted to know why they were hanging at your house when both of your cats were neutered or spayed and not in the market for Toms or gals.. LOL.. Now it could be that the word is out and those darn cats have been braggin' on ya, and telling the whole cat neighborhood how good they have it in the Neily Household.. Those old cats may be just looking to hang out with you old chum!!! LOL
They now a sucker when they see one! LOL

Neil what has happened to that "cat invasion" in your garden now, is it sorted out yet?
Also how are the adopted cats doing?
-
Maybe the extra cats in your yard are there because they know they don't run the risk of child support with your female cat.
I remember seeing that they had banned the selling of cat and dog fur, saw it on BBC news last year, so maybe this has increased the cat population.

Thanks Rosalind !...well, we now have a regular visit from what must be the local social services in feline form. One cat insists on checking out our garage and there's another who likes to check out if the bushes in our garden are meeting with regulatory cat-friendly guidelines !

I think you must be right...lets split up... Pixie (the girly cat) is a quite probably a little teaser and knows full well that she's a safe bet. I think all the blokey cats must think she's ' up for it ' ! [;)]

There's a chance you may have catnip growing in your garden - it certainly will grow in this climate - are they particularly attracted to any one part of the garden? Do they act a little dazed?

I bet they got an error message!
-
Neil do you have any type of mint, grass or catnip in your garden because if so then that might a reason or cause for the "invading" cats.
Unless your pair are on "heat" and then the other cats/felines would know that instinctively. Unless they've seen your vet
to be "doctored"

As someone who doesn't particularly like cats, I can see what sods they are in their effect on local wildlife. They all ought to wear enormous bells for a start.
If it were down to me, I sterilise most of them and charge £100 for a cat licence for the privilege of distributing s**t all over my garden..
