i have just read that there is a place near mayfield nebraska that the sun dosent shine is this true,

Well, here is a weather forecast for Mayfield and, as you can see, they forecast sun for at least 1 day.

Yes it does. It will still be shining even though we can't see it.

I would have thought that at the base of many north facing objects such as walls (in the Northern hemisphere) would not receive much, if any direct sunlight, especially those north of the Tropic of Cancer. The same would also be true of south facing objects in the Southern hemishpere (and the Tropic of Capricorn).
