Due to a lack of time, I'll keep my theory short.
Last night, I spent a good amount of time researching what we know about how our brain retrieves, processes, and stores memories. I found that there's not much we know about this function of the brain, apart from long term memory and (just recently) short term memory. But as far as how the brain retrieves these memories and from where, we are still at sea.
So I began thinking on a much more abstract scale. What I say below this line is purely hypothetical.
Our memories exist in the fourth dimension. Our brain acts as a medium between space and time. Our memories are chunks of our existence in the fourth dimension (time), and our brain is capable of retrieving and showing our minds this "past" information instantly, since time does not govern the fourth dimension.
This could explain the almost instantaneous response of nerve signals and other things related. Could the fourth dimension lie within the subatomic particles which make up the universe?
One thing that supports this theory are black holes. A large enough amount of mass in a small area would be void of time, assuming the mass was so compact that even the subatomic particles would not have enough "space" for time to exist.
I'm not claiming some new theory in my name or anything; I'm merely asking a community if they think my under-educated speculation is plausible. Thanks :)

Good for you for speculating, but don't you think you're over complicating the issue? We know that there is activity in different parts of the brain whether it's storing or accessing short or long term memories. We know that damaging the brain can change our ability to access or make memories.
Why then make the leap to assume that something outside the brain is responsible for memories? Isn't it simpler and more logical to assume that our brain is responsible, we're just not exactly sure how yet?

I don't believe I said that "something outside the brain" governs our memories. What I mean is our brain, on a subatomic level, breaches the space/time gap to access any past state of being which lies in the fourth dimension. The brain could be a medium between space and time.

I rather doubt that there is any form of 4th dimensional memory library, or that if there were, that our brain would have the ability to communicate with it.
Our memories are stored in our brain. How they are stored and retrieved we may understand at some point in the future.
As for your 'under-educated speculation', don't put yourself down, you made your idea understandable, even if I disagree with it.
