For me, it is Amazon, I get my books delivered very timely and one time when an error was made, thy were very courteous and gave me a full refund (even though I was not asking nor expecting one) wih my books.

A company called Gasway, in East Anglia (UK). They were excellent when my boiler broke down - they let me book a day and time that suited me, within just a few days (could have come sooner if I'd wanted), and arrived when they said they would. Plus everyone was very pleasant and helpful. The part I needed was cheaper than expected, and so my bill was less than expected. Plus they didn't charge a second call-out fee for coming back to fit the part. They were recommended to me, and I'd pass that recommendation on.

Hmmm, that's a tricky question. I would only be impressed if a company went beyond normal practice to do something beneficial. Merely demonstrating efficiency or courtesy doesn't impress me. Unfortunately, there are so many companies that do not seem to work in the best interests of their customers (call centres, for instance, or automated telephone systems that take ages until you can actually talk to a real person) that any that do work efficiently and offer the kind of service we should expect often do impress by comparison.

Damo's example of amazon is a case in point. I would expect my books to be delivered promptly and any error to be addressed and resolved immediately. Now, if an Amazon employee turned up at my house at 8pm to personally deliver my books on the day I ordered them, that would impress me!

John Lewis. They always come up trumps when I have a problem. I was struggling to find an
e-book reader that would arrive in time for hubbies birthday so I went into my local John Lewis. They too had none in store but the assistant tracked one down in Southend and told them it was a customer complaint that needed next day delivery. It arrived the next day in time for Davids birthday.

Once again I find I must agree with Doc Beaver. Companies should do what they are paid to do. Only if they go that extra step would I give them credit.

I always try to go that extra mile with my clients. So many turn up at an exhibition minus something or other which they didn't think of or forgot to bring. So I always carry the most usual of these items, such as Velcro, gaffer tape, cable ties, a selection of nails & screws, tools and some repackaging materials. I also find myself frequently helping them with their pop-up stands, despite my remit being logistics, not stand building and dressing.

Little story of me being impressed.

In Kampala, and many other cities/towns in Africa, there are the usual plethora of peripatetic street vendors. I was approached one day by just such a chap as i was sitting outside a cafe having a meal. He was pushing a clothes rail on wheels around on which were trousers, jeans & shirts.

I said I didn't need any of those but what I could really use was an extension cable with 4 sockets on it. The vendor movedon and I thought no more of it.

Later that day I was in the main shopping centre in Kampala, about 3 miles from where the cafe was, and lo & behold, who should approach me but the street trader from earlier in the day. He was still pushing his clothes rail around but over his arm was draped a 4-way extension lead.

He said he had gone to get it for me and had been looking for me. He had pushed his clothes rack miles round Kampala to find me. That impressed me!

I do agree that companies should do what you pay them to do, why should 'normal service' impress you? However, 'normal service' is usually pretty poor, therefore any company that actually trains their staff and delivers their promises is likely to impress. sad but true.

I returned home the other day to find the clock out on the DVD player, my digital photo frame on (when it was most definately off when I left!) and no internet. i called tiscali, and they fixed it within a few minutes! She knew exactly what she was talking about.

I can add and subtract. Do I get a prize, as well?
