John Purslow asked the Naked Scientists:
Why is water so strange?
It combines two of the most dangerous and reactive elements yet is stable - and essential for life. It's colourless, odourless and tasteless, when most substances aren't. Plus it's denser as a liquid than a solid!
Why? How? We must be told!
What do you think?

I'd say Hydrogen bonds? and the very very VERY effective way they're used in water?
Though i'm no expert on the matter
