We're looking for space/astronomy pictures to discuss as part of a new podcast!
We would like to see the ones that you have found that simply blew you away, or even better, ones you have taken yourself!
If you have any amazing astronomical pics, get them in to us by posting them in this thread or emailing them to Chris@thenakedscientists.com.
We look forward to seeing space through your eyes...

Hey its really very nice and cool picks. I have seen some of them before. I am student of computer field. But still I would like to do different types of experiments. I like science field too much but someone force makes me to join computer field. Well its not bad but I would like to watch more picks. So if you have it more than you can share it here.

WEST YORKSHIRE, GREAT BRITAIN -- Putting NASA and its billion dollar budgets to shame, a British space enthusiast took amazing photos and video from space with just a few hundred dollars, a home camera and a balloon.
Robert Harrison spent a mere $747 dollars to take his photos and video from 22 miles above Earth's surface.
The results are stunning.
Harrison told the L.A. Times that a NASA official who saw the photos and video called him and asked him how he did it.

Most pictures get posted in the other thread, started back in 2007 i.e. before this thread was started. It doesn't make sense to me to have two threads for posting physics & astronomy pics.

Hi,
I installed transient event on my iPhone. It shows differences in night sky. Here is an example http://www.skyalert.org/events/19451/
My question, this looks like the star is moving, I assume huge distances how?. Like to know what you think.
Regards
Scott

Exposure itme?
Magnification?
-
well to answer your question, the photo of the moon was taken with a n orion 4.5" reflector with a homemade mount to hold my digital camera, i don't remember the magnification specs, the rest were taken with the same mount and telescope but with a better camera. i compiled the different images into one cool picture with gimp.

So the exposure times where small? You didnt need to motorise/drive the telescope during the exposure?

I like the way you explain the thing here.. i am looking forward to get knowledge from your community.

What do you mean by that?

1. thank you mam. 2. yeah i would like a motor mount but are expensive, and not really needed for the simple stuff i do. by the way someone asked and i live in the southern Appalation Mountains. so we have very clear skys

I took this image of M42 during a Rent a Scope free trial.
The concept of renting time on top notch scopes is great and may present an alternative to buying a telescope and imaging equipment to some folk.
The equipment would be beyond budget for most private astronomers plus you get to explore the night sky during the day - so no freezing your wotsits off [::)]

I took this one using a Canon 500d directly mounted on a Meade LX90 from my attick window.

I may have overdone the sharpening a bit @ 70: maybe ~50 would have been optimal.

wow amazing ! i like the pics, how can u take them
You could try this for starters, the software makes things nice and easy to get great results:
http://www.global-rent-a-scope.com/register-on-gras/
When I used my free trial I used this free http://www.stellarium.org/ software to identify what was in the night sky local to the scope in order to get the most from the limited time. You can assign targets for the remote scope from its database and it will motor to that view. Local weather permitting you can view the image directly on your pc. Once you get a nice image on screen you can follow the instructions to capture the image using some pretty neat imaging equipment by selecting the filters you want to apply. The image is then processed and sent to you directly.
If you get the bug you can sign up and pay to view a wide range of top notch scopes situated all over the world.

I took this one myself using a weather balloon and camera. Hope you like it. Let me know if you would like to see more!
