I know I haven't been here in a while, have there been changes I'm not aware of that prevent me from starting one?

We haven't changed anything intentionally, but we did have some major server issues a few weeks ago, which may have left damage we we haven't noticed yet.

Please can you let me know what error message you get (if any) and what it is you're trying to post?

Ben, I ended up posting Carolyn's thread on her behalf..I realised that it was the brand name of the drug she cited that would not allow the post to post. Once I changed it , it posted. Is there some kind of brand censorship thing in place ?

There are a number of products, especially drugs for weightloss/sexual enhancement purposes, which have been advertised by spammers and have at one time or another been added by mods to the Naked Scientists' own blacklist.

There is also a blacklist (I think it's the wikipedia blacklist, but I'm not sure) that the forum uses, there's also a "whitelist" of words which are on the wikipedia blacklist but we want people to be able to use for exactly this reason.

It might be a good idea, at least in the physiology/medecine forum if when a post is blocked a page came up indicating the word that had been blacklisted... this would allow people to re-post by going to find the generic name for the drug and/or to send a message asking for that word to be de-blacklisted at least temporarily.

It could well be that a brand name was spammed here before and added to our own blacklist - or as Rosy points out it could be the wikipedia blacklist.  Carolyn, if you would care to send me a personal message with the brand name - I'll check our blacklist or add it to the whitelist.

Ben, the brand is A_dipex...I just added the lower case hyphen to get it through the censor net !

Yeah... not surprisingly. That should have read "can try re-posting to see if it works"... just because it's quicker than going via a mod.
