What a fascinating site Dr Eth.

Numbers are great aren't they ?...without numbers Maths classes would be very boring !..in fact , even with numbers they are boring..but then that's because i have an aversion to mathematical calculations...unlike you people who probably love them !

Men are the same as women.... just inside out !!

Neil - it's the way maths can form patterns like those spirals that fascinates me. I don't necessarily understand the maths involved, but I can appreciate the beauty of the patterns

Surely, without numbers maths classes wouldn't exist [:D]

Is "misnomer" a synonym of "cock-up"? [:D]

Oooh, prime numbers, lovely jubbly! I love prime numbers. They really are genuinely fascinating. I could talk about them all night.

But maybe I'd better not - I may be wrong here, but I'm picking up a slight vibe that not everyone is as excited about maths as I am ... [:(]

(P.S. Who's Misnomer? Was she your maths teacher?)

Dearest Paul

...please feel free to cite a prime number here at your leisure.....or even two if you're daring.

Personally I can not think of anything else I'd rather do , even sex ! than look at the prime numbers you place here for our visual joyance and delight.

Which is your favourite ?

Do I detect the delicate scent of sarcasm or the pungent aroma of bull****? [:D]

Actually, I do have a genuine interest in numbers....statistics for instance and there are certain elements to numbers where fact almost sounds like fiction. My brother is a Maths genius, he got all the number crunching brain cells. I wish I could understand.

Did you know that the largest prime number found to date is
2^25964951 - 1
which is over 7.8 million digits long?

Of course, that's a Mersenne prime, and it's harder to find large non-Mersenne primes.  The largest non-Mersenne found to date is
27653 * 2^9167433 + 1
which is only a measly 2.7 million digits long.

(OK, OK, I'm just getting my own back for the sarcasm!  But if you find this helps you with your insomnia, Neil, I can always keep going ... [:D])
