Title: Are there any safe science tricks for making a big entrance?

Holly McKay asked the Naked Scientists:

I'm the "mad scientist" at our elementary school and they've asked me to introduce our 1st grade program since their theme is SCIENCE.  Do you have any recommendations to make a grand entrance/exit (e.g. make some mixture that would make a good "poof' or light up something in some big way, smoke effect)... something without any possible danger to the kids on stage with me.  I would appreciate any creative ideas you can offer!!
