Title: Biotechnology VS Biomedical science
Post by: cat_with_no_eyes on 05/09/2010 17:42:26

I'm very confused as to which degree I should pursue at University. I want to be involved in human disease research, specifically in the development of a cure for Cancer, HIV/AIDS etc.

But I also like genetic genetic engineering and biology and to work on vaccines. But People have been telling me that Biotech is the future and Biomedical is on it's way out.

I'd hate to get half way through my degree in Biomed only to find that Biotech has exploded and taken over the world!

I'd really appreciate some advice on which avenue to go down. Some pros and cons maybe? Like I said, I'm confused!!

Thank you

Short answer-Biomed will always been needed as long as people still get ill!! Also go with what interests you, if you don't you want stay the whole way through a degree.

If you want to make money then Biotech is where you should look for it.

If you want to do pure research because your life is about the actual pursuit of knowledge and the betterment of the human condition then Biotech may not be your cup of Oolong.
