Title: Help in applying for a job with disabled children?

I am applying to work as a play worker who will be working with diabled children, however i do have a lot of qualities but what do these people look for when taking someone for the job?

I am really really passionate for this type of work, but I would like to know what qualities the people want and what else i can write about myself?

I'm no expert, but stressing the "really really passionate" part would seem VERY powerful.

It's a quality that is sorely lacking - yet desperately needed -   _everywhere_ .

If you are in the states you will likely need to be fingerprinted and run through the FBI and such files to make sure you have no record or negative history... You will need to demonstrate a lot of patience and understanding along with compassion as well as a good sense of humor...You will also benefit from any volunteer work with these children as that will go a long way...as well as doing some research into the care and difficulties of becoming a caring dependable care person in a situation like this..
The kids are wonderful and the rewards may not be as monetary as you would like but there is a incredible satisfaction and reward in just the reward you will get in return from the children as well as adults in this area of work..

Also it may do you some good to enroll in a couple ECE (Early Childhood Education)classes and a class or 2 or 3 in working with and understanding handicapped and disabled or mentally challenged children and adults..Perhaps acquainting your self with many of the challenges they and you will be facing each day..

As Karen has pointed out about the need for FBI checks in the US, in the UK you will need to be checked by the CRO (Criminal Records).

I had to be screened by both the FBI and the CIA...It  is a very thorough check....
