If you mean the breakfast cereal (as distinct from the group of plants known as cereals), then the Kellogg brothers, J.H. And W.K. Kellogg.

Some of the medical claims for the first breakfast cereals are somewhat fanciful to say the least.

That having been said, the two brothers disagreed about the recipe for corn flakes, when W.K.Kellogg started adding sugar, and J.H.Kellogg tried to sue his brother to stop him using the family name for the product.

"who invented cereal"

I think it happened shortly after two strains of grass copulated some 10,000 years ago.

The cereal question... In the Bible Book of Daniel the prophet:  After he and the Israelites were taken captive to Babylon, he gained the king's favor 'cause he could interperate dreams.

The king invited Daniel and his companions to eat at the king"s table.  There were many rich and fattening dishes available.  Daniel and the others could not eat trafe food (non-Kosher) according to the laws of food laid down Leviticus I think.  He offered a sort of food contest to the king, because to spurn the invitation to eat at the king's table would be a dangerous insult.

Daniel offered to eat pulse (a sort of cereal made primarily of peas and beans.) In other words Peas Porridge hot, Peas porridge cold.

The challenge was that he and his companions would eat pulse instead of meat, and some of the king's entourage would eat the rich and fatty delicious foods from the king's tables. At the end of a certain time both groups would appear before the king and he would see both and decide which group was healthier. The king saw the the pulse food made for a healthier man.

I would submit this account as the first recorded cereal food. Nowadays we eat pea soup, but there is not a peas flakes made for the breakfast crowd.
