Title: Science Books to read?
Post by: Angie Yates on 20/02/2006 13:02:56
Anyone recommend general interest human science books to read?

I've just read 'Classic Case Studies in Psychology' by Dr Geoff Rolls published by Hodder ARNOLD[/b] ISBN: 0 340 88692 7 .  Really good accessible read about unbelievable but true life stories.  Can anyone recommend any other 'easy access' science books for the general reader?

I suggest Bill Bryson's "a short history of nearly everything" :-

"" Book Description:
The incomparable Bill Bryson travels through time and space to introduce us to the world, the universe and everything.

Mail on Sunday
'Bryson promises to make geology, chemistry and even particle physics fun and understandable. Move over Stephen Hawking.' --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

The Times - Peter Atkins
'This most enjoyable of books ... A travelogue of science, with a witty, engaging, and well-informed guide.' --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

The Sunday Times - John Cornwell
'Impressive in his terse concreteness ... Hugely readable and never obfuscating.' --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Scotsman
'Lucid, thoughtful and, above all, entertaining.' --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.  ""

Sorry Neilep,
I did read your post, but I thought "THIS is an excellent read" referred to the psychology book mentioned by Angie Yates.

Although I enjoyed the Bryson book, I highly recommend John Gribbin's book "Science A History". It also covers a history of everything but is not quite so brief.  It still manages to be an easy read though.
