How does the core of the Earth being liquid, I am to understand Iron, produce a magnetic field? And how can the polarity reverse?

its a very interesting question

Magnetic reversal is not instantaneous - typically takes 1000 years or more to complete a full reversal cycle.

What pertabational trigger causes this reversal?

I only start to understand. Hardly.
