Title: What would happen if a planet fell into a star?
Post by: Chance on 01/03/2011 00:30:03
Chance asked the Naked Scientists:

If a planet fell into the Sun, would its mass be added to the Sun, or burned away?

What do you think?

How fast would it move relative the sun?
And what mass, and inner temperature?

The Earth is only about one millionth the mass of the Sun and would very little effect if it was adsorbed, it might have a short cooling effect in the photosphere but probably less than the common dark spots.

I think Earth`s mass is too small that do something major Sun`s mass. Perhaps would be little bigger but it would be something like comparison ant with Jupiter ( I haven`t got better example :))
