Title: Does institutional care damage children's health?

Children who spend more time in institutional care have shorter telomeres, caps on the end of chromosomes that are eroded with age, according to a study published this week in the journal of Molecular Psychiatry.

I'm trying to remember about telomerase activity and children.

Perhaps the stress and institutional care somehow affects the expression of telomerase.  Anyway, this would be pretty extraordinary if these results are repeated. 

I would, however, attempt to quantify telomerase too.  There are current mouse studies about telomerase regulation.
