Title: Sweat
Post by: goofkid on 06/04/2006 23:03:17
can you tell me why some people sweat more than others? I mean, I noticed some people are sweating like mad while others just a bit (in the same environment).

Is it normal (or good?) to sweat alot? Plz help me out here.

Many people suffer from over active sweet glands.  Hyperhidrosis is the name given to excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis may affect the entire body, or it may be localised to the armpits, palms, soles, face or elsewhere.

Amongst other aspects, weight can contribute to sweating (all other things being equal, heavier people sweat more, if for no reason than they have a larger body mass, need more energy to move, and proportionately less surface area over which to dispose of that heat).

i have to agree with you on this. Is this confined the humans or do elephants sweet more then other animals?

Firstly, you have to take into account what is normal for an animal, and what is large for that animal.  Elephants may have a large body mass in proportion to their surface area, but they are designed to generate less heat too take into account that difference.

The other thing is, that as far as I am aware, Elephants only sweat behind the ears, which is why they keep flapping their ears.  Also, the lack of ability to sweat over much of their body is why they like swimming, and otherwise covering themselves in water.

Dogs also don't sweat, which is why the pant when they are hot, so they can evaporate water from their tongues.

a lot of sweating is controled hormonally.  since theere are big differences between hormone levels from person to person, it goes to figure that different peopel sweat different amounts.
