Title: Why are there so many trees dying or going brown early?

Why are there so many trees dying and if not dying there green foiliage going south and turning brownn or rusty colour very early. has the volcano ash from iceland damaged the soil or trees growth. ?

Volcano ash actually tends to be relatively fertile, and brings vital nutrients to the surface for plants.

I would look for changes in the seasons and watering patterns, as well as pests.  Pests often spread much easier today with the international travel.

It rather depends on where you are.

Here in the UK, many crops have been harvested early and many plants have bloomed early. With a decidedly cool August, it would appear that plants are under the impression that spring and summer came early and autumn (fall) is already here.
