I have noticed that one of my cats likes to ride on the top of my robot. After deciding to take a video of it I posted it on the web and noticed on the same website a few other people have recorded similar things.
It's 49 secs duration, Tigger, 7mths, Bot rider.. :)
So anyway, what is going on here? Is it some kind of prey instinct or is it territorial? The first time they ever heard it they ran off as you would expect. Gradually they get bolder and began to attack it especially when it went near the food. Now they are used to it around but still let it bump into them knowing now it will turn away from them. I can only imagine that they perceive the robot to be another animal and when it sleeps it poses little threat although they still acknowledge it. When it starts they now seem to play with it and enjoy it as a toy.
I'm sure someone else here will have an opinion on this humorous behavior?

I think you need to get some grey felt, a bit of padding, and make some ears and a tail for your "bot" [::)]

Like many animals, cats have intelligence and feelings. This is played down a lot because there are many animals we choose to kill for food. Without being anthropomophic, I expect cats have an equivalent of just enjoying unusual experiences. Humans like to go on fairground rides etc. so I would not rule out that cats may also like to do some things simply because they like it. There may be deep psychological reasons, as no doubt there is for humans and fairground rides, but there may well be some analogue between the two species' behaviours.

Someone told me something the other day I thought was quite good...... maybe you have heard it before...
We feed dogs and they think we are gods.

Maybe the machine vibrates close to purr frequency (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Whiskers%27_purr_edit.ogg).

Cats are also attracted to the heat from some machines such as dryers and vacuum cleaners etc.... they love to sit and lie around on things that make a consistent hum or vibration or that produces heat.. Very cool video...Lol the cat seemed so intrigued by the view in the one video Lol.... and yours was way comfortable on the vacuum! Hee.... hee... hee... :-)

The cat kind of has the Maid's apron coloring. However, I think you need a full maid's outfit for the cat!!!

It got to a point where i had to turn the bot upside down in the night as he discovered how to turn it on himself by kneading the buttons! I got woken up several times in the night to the sound of the cleaner only to find him sitting on it riding around in the dark, lol.
I got a pet passport for him and his sister, got them both to the UK and found a new home for them both.
