Title: could we be stuck inside our own galaxy?

Ive recently watched a program about black holes and space curving and all that and that there is a black hole in the centre of most galaxies.

There is a concensus that the black hole leads to a singularity which means infinitely small. Now if all this matter 3 million suns worth in the milky way if I remember rite in a space that is infinitely small, surely it is impossible, if you have something it has to be somewhere you would think.

Also mentioned was that the black hole size was in proportion to the size of the matter in its galaxy so it seems related even though what is inside it cannot get out as well as look out if it had a conscious of some sort to know it had to change. It must know what is around it or it would not turn out like this but once inside nothing can get out so how could this happen?

So, has it ever been considered that the galaxy is like a dohnut which is inside out if that makes sense where the black hole is twisting the space of the galaxy in on its self? Could this mean we are stuck inside it and that the black hole is like an exit into the universe rather than an infinitely small point? Would this also help the problem that there is not enough gravity to hold a galaxy together if it is not actually the shape we perceive?

Not neccesarily. There's nothing wrong with matter density being infinite since the density is not physically measureable and has to be calculated. Just like the charge of an electron. An electron has a finite charge but has no size, i.e. it's a point charge. But there's nothing wrong with that.

That might be a general rule and it may not always be true. There are certaintly blaclholes that aren't that size but only a few solar masses.

That's an extremely confusing sentance to read. Please rephrase it.

Thanks for the reply, im not a scientist so I find it difficult to explain myself as well as yourself sorry. I do like to hear things though and try to work things out in my head sometimes right and sometimes wrong. I agree that not all black holes have a relationship but there is evidence that a wide range of black holes and there galaxies of various sizes and ages do. A simple google search will show this.

What im trying to say is that beyond the event horizon nothing can get in or out of the black hole so how does this relationship work if either side cannot perceive what is happening to the other. Surely with your intelligence you can see what im trying to say.

The event horizon is not symmetrical. According to current theories:
The strange twisted space near and inside the event horizon would seem to be quite inhospitable to life as we know it, or to hypothetical conscious entities.

*Ignoring the low level of black-body radiation thought to be emitted from tiny black holes.

No worries. There's a wonderful book out by a well-known expert on black holes, i.e. Kip thorne. The book is called Black Holes and Time Warps - Einstein's Outrageous Legacy. It was written for the layman. I think you'd love it. You can get it online at
