Greetings to all whom I am subordinate in science stuff to ! (that probably includes a delinquent Haddock ! [:)])
Where I have been staying (in South West England) I have been enjoying the most amazing views of the night sky that I can ever recall. No bothersome light pollution for miles and miles...and oh My !!..is the night sky in such a place a beauty to behold...I am left in awe of it. I have never seen so many stars.
There is a clear defined band of stars that crosses the entire sky...is this what I think it is ?..is it little old me on this blue marble gazing across the edge of the Milky way ?...is it ?..is it ?
WOW !!!
Men are the same as women, just inside out !

Sounds like absolute heaven Sir! Don't you love when it is so clear and so awesome to look at! I marvel at the night sky on such a night! Makes this universe seem so much more vast and makes one feel very small in comparison! What a wonderful memory to bring home with you!!

I don't know about that. I am a small town country girl, and I have only been in a city a couple of times in my 45+ years and comming into Sanfrancisco is my only experience, and it was an absolutely beautiful site to "VISIT". I am definitely not a city girl. I like to visit, but the scene Neil descibed is one I see on most nights. There is fog so some nights are fuzzy, but I am inland aways and it is usually very clear and very beautiful at night!

When we have the possibility to see such wonderful things, in complete silence (outside and inside), if our soul is strong enough, we can have the most beautiful and strong emotions of our life. Please, next time you have such an experience, remember: we all comes from the stars. We have always lived there, we will always live there, forever.

I too am a stargazer.
we are all made of stars. It is wonderful.
My head is not what it used to be.

Ok it's scary how many people haven't seen it - I guess haveing grown up on the coast in Devon seeing it is quite normal. Was the comet that was particularly bright about 15years ago Hale-Bopp? I could see the tail over about 30-40° of the sky, which was about 3x what the TV was talking about at the time... Pity Cambridge has such orange skys...

Two years ago I was lucky to get my first clear view of the night sky in the Australian outback (after 75 years), it was an awsome sight Venus was so bright it thru a distinct sharp shadow.
