Steady as she goes I would say.

Now if you asked about the future of organized religion then I would say it is in decline.  But as interest in a shared formal god goes down a compensatory interest in the connection of the spirit seems to go up.

Given we just repeat cycles of decline and renewal, the same could be said for organised Religion, A rise and fall dependent on the vagaries of the human mind, perhaps some political movements could be termed semi-religious.
So an Ebb of Flow for a deity as well.

Not wishing to offend anyone (see previous posts!), isn't it possible that we'll grow out of needing to believe in one or more gods?

God wants to protect you, not "get" you. If anything, he'll protect you from those who want to get you(me.)

I think stricly taken, God is 'beyond' time and space, according to most religious books, like the Bible. So, God does not have a future. It's only part of Him, and which part, or the outcome, is anyone's guess. Affable, but unfathomable, that's the whole point of being a Deity. Predictability is a big no-no in those circles, apparently.

I am sure I watched a documentary about a gene that makes us feel like we need to believe in something. SO it is kinda like a built in belief system.
But what I don't get is what about ateists?

What do you mean by "what about atheists"?

Strictly speaking, an atheist is simply somebody why does not believe in God - this by no means suggests that he does not believe in anything.

Mainstream Buddhism is actually an atheistic religion, since Buddhism, although believing in many 'supernatural' concepts, do not believe in a God as such.

Many 'non-religious', or even 'anti-religeous', atheists object to the idea that they are also subject to belief systems; but I think in fact there is a good argument to be made that despite no believing in God, they nonetheless do have their own belief system that they buy into.

People always have a hunger for God, looking at the generations past.

They will congregate in church and in business and in forums for the view and practice of justice and prayer and praise of God.

They will look to God for answers, for peace and friendship and fun and art. For hope beyond this life span.
